Comparisons for the decisions Canadian buyers actually face. Each one is structured around price, weight, heat control, attachments and durability — and each one says which buyer suits which product, rather than declaring an overall champion. Where a comparison is uneven, because the products do different jobs or sit in different price brackets, we say so at the top instead of letting the table imply a like-for-like contest.
Current comparisons
| Comparison | Price gap | The real question |
|---|---|---|
| Laifen vs Dyson | about C$100 against about C$400 — 4× to 6.3× | Does 4× the price buy 4× the dryer, or just a service network? |
| Shark vs Dyson | about C$200 against about C$400 — 2× to 3.2× | Is scalp protection plus half the price a better trade than a proven track record? |
How we structure a comparison
Every comparison follows the same order, so you can jump to what matters to you.
- Quick answer — who each product suits, before any detail
- Comparison table — price, rating, ratings count, seller structure and product type side by side
- Price — the gap, and what the premium actually buys
- Drying performance — the airflow approach, and where we have not measured
- Weight and handling — because you hold it at arm’s length for ten minutes
- Heat control — the second-largest complaint cluster in our dataset
- Noise — the fourth most-mentioned concern
- Attachments — including security, which generates 186 mentions and 57% negative
- Hair type suitability — a table mapping hair type to the better fit
- Travel and storage — where voltage decisions live
- Durability and warranty — where complaint rates by price band appear
- Value over time — cost per year, with the assumptions stated
- Who should buy each one — including who should not
- Alternatives — including cheaper and more expensive options

Two rules we apply to every comparison
1. We do not declare a winner. A dryer that is better for travel is usually not the one that is better for thick hair. Ranking one above the other overall would hide the fact that matters. We tell you which buyer each product suits.
2. We state when a comparison is uneven. A high-velocity hair dryer and a multi-styler are different product categories. A C$100 dryer and a C$630 dryer are not equivalents. Where either is true, we say so at the top rather than letting the table imply a like-for-like contest.
What is not a comparison input: commission rate. Our editorial policy sets out why, and how it is enforced.
Comparisons we know are missing
- Laifen vs Shark — the two mid-price high-speed options, which we have not yet covered head to head
- Dreame vs Laifen — both dual-voltage-adjacent high-speed dryers in the C$100–160 band
- Shark FlexStyle vs Dyson Airwrap — a genuine like-for-like multi-styler comparison, which is a different category from the dryers we currently compare
- Budget legacy vs high-speed — whether a C$25 Conair is genuinely worse than a C$100 high-speed dryer for occasional use

Frequently asked questions
What makes a fair hair dryer comparison? Comparing products that do the same job. A high-velocity hair dryer and a multi-styler are different categories, and comparing them produces a meaningless result. Where product types differ we say so rather than forcing a comparison.
Why do your comparisons not declare a winner? Because a winner depends on what you value. A dryer that is better for travel is usually not the one that is better for thick hair. We give you the difference and tell you which buyer each product suits, rather than declaring an overall champion.
Do you compare across price ranges? Yes, and we say when the comparison is uneven. Laifen vs Dyson is a comparison between a C$100 dryer and a C$400–630 dryer, and we state that plainly instead of presenting them as equivalents.
How do you handle products you have not tested? We compare what we can verify: price, rating, seller structure, review-evidence patterns and manufacturer claims labelled as such. Where we have not measured airflow, weight or noise, the comparison table says not yet tested rather than carrying an estimate.
Which hair dryer comparisons should I read first? If you are weighing a premium import against a cheaper alternative, start with Laifen vs Dyson. If you want the mid-price option that adds scalp protection, read Shark vs Dyson.
