Every model review we publish, organised by brand. Each review states what we checked, the date we verified the figures, and which model we would avoid — because in this category the model you should skip is often more useful to know than the one you should buy.
Reviews by brand
| Brand | Coverage | What our data shows |
|---|---|---|
| Laifen | All 6 Canadian models | Full review — the Air and SE2 are worth buying, the Swift gen 1 is not |
| Dyson | Both Supersonic models | Full review — the reliability benchmark, but neither model leads on rating |
| Slopehill | All 3 Canadian models | Full review — Canada’s volume leader, and the weakest warranty structure |
| Conair | 3 models | Full review — the lowest-risk budget choice, but not a performance one |
| Dreame | Pocket Pro | Full review — highest-rated dryer above C$120 in our dataset at 4.6★ |
| Shark | SpeedStyle Pro | Full review — Scalp Shield at half of Dyson, but only 64 Canadian ratings |
| wavytalk | 1875W | Full review — the second-largest review base in Canada at 32,950 ratings |
| Revlon | RVDR5034F | Full review — ~12% of Canadian units, at about C$19 |
| Aina | Diffuser Dryer | Full review — BSR #2, and a brand-operated listing at about C$26 |
| Remington | 2 models | Full review — 48,228 ratings, the largest review base we track |
Every brand in our dataset now has a dedicated review. Ten brands are covered: Laifen, Dyson, Slopehill, Conair, Dreame, Shark, wavytalk, Revlon, Aina and Remington. If a model you are considering is missing, email editorial@hairdryerlab.ca — but note that our dataset covers the Amazon.ca Hair Dryers category only, so hot air brush stylers are outside it entirely.
Where a brand sells several confusingly similar models, we review the brand rather than repeating ourselves. Our Laifen review covers all six Canadian models in one page for exactly that reason — the model names overlap badly enough that buyers order the wrong one.
How our reviews are structured
Every review answers the same set of questions, so you can compare like for like.
| Section | What it tells you |
|---|---|
| Best for / Skip if | Who should buy it, and who should not — before you read further |
| Price and rating | Verified on Amazon.ca, with the check date stated |
| What we liked | The strengths the evidence actually supports |
| What we didn’t | The weaknesses, including for our top picks |
| Reliability signals | Price band complaint rate, seller structure and Buy Box holder |
| Comparison table | Competing models side by side, with measured rows marked where we have not tested yet |
| FAQ | The questions buyers actually ask |
We do not publish a score out of ten. A single number hides the trade-offs, and in a category where a C$43 dryer and a C$630 dryer are both “good”, the trade-offs are the whole decision.
What we check for every review
Four things, and all of them are decisions you can verify yourself.
- Reliability signals from our review analysis. Durability is the most negative topic in our dataset at 946 negative mentions and an 84% negative share, so complaint rate by price band is a ranking input rather than a footnote
- Seller structure. Whether the listing is brand-operated and who holds the Buy Box, because that determines whether a warranty claim has a counterparty
- Verified price and rating at a stated check date
- Fit for a specific buyer — most people, thick hair, curly hair, budget or premium
What is not an input: commission rate, brand relationship or advertising spend. See our editorial policy.
Reviews we know are missing
We would rather tell you what is not here than let you assume coverage is complete.
- Individual Laifen model pages — the Laifen Air, SE2 and Air Diffuser are currently covered inside the brand review rather than on their own pages
- Shark FlexStyle — this is a multi-styler comparable to the Dyson Airwrap, a different product category from the SpeedStyle Pro we currently cover
- Budget legacy models — Revlon, Remington and Aina all appear in our category analysis but do not yet have their own reviews
- Our own bench measurements — no review currently contains measured airflow, noise, weight or dry time. That changes as units complete our test protocol
If a model you are considering is missing, email editorial@hairdryerlab.ca. Reader requests are one of the inputs we use when deciding what to cover next.
Frequently asked questions
How do you decide which hair dryers to review? We start from the Amazon.ca Hair Dryers category ranking, which shows what is actually selling in Canada, rather than from what brands pitch us. Models need enough Canadian sales or reviews that a reader might genuinely be considering them, and we prioritise products where our data reveals something a buyer would not otherwise know.
Why do some reviews cover several models at once? Where a brand sells several similar models with confusingly similar names, a single brand-level review is more useful than separate pages that repeat each other. Our Laifen review covers all six Canadian models in one place precisely because the names overlap badly and buyers order the wrong one.
Do your reviews include a score out of ten? No. We give category conclusions such as drying speed, noise, weight, heat control and value, and we show the underlying figures where we have them. A single composite number hides the trade-offs that actually decide a purchase.
How current are your reviews? Prices and ratings are re-checked monthly, and each comparison table states the date the figures were verified. Where a specification cannot be verified for the exact variant, we say so rather than printing a number we cannot stand behind.
Will you review more models? Yes. We are expanding coverage by brand and by hair type. If a model you are considering is missing, tell us at editorial@hairdryerlab.ca — reader requests are one of the inputs we use when deciding what to cover next.
