Hair Dryer Lab Editorial Team

Our byline is a team byline because that is what we are. We do not invent named expert personas or credentials we cannot substantiate.

This is our byline, and it is a team byline because that is what we actually are. We do not attach an invented individual identity to our work, and we do not borrow credentials we have not earned. What we offer instead is a published method, a published dataset with its limits stated, published editorial rules, and a correction history you can check.

Our credentials are process credentials

We are deliberate about this, because the alternative is the industry norm and it is dishonest.

What we claim:

  • A published research method with its limitations stated — see how we test
  • A dataset we can describe precisely: sample size, date span, verified-purchase share, and where it skews
  • Published editorial rules that constrain what we will publish, including a prohibition on paid rankings

What we do not claim:

  • Hands-on styling expertise. We have not bench-tested the dryers we currently recommend, and every guide says so
  • Professional qualifications we do not hold. We are not electricians, dermatologists or trichologists, and we do not answer questions that need those professions
  • A named individual with a fabricated biography. You will not find a “certified specialist” on this site who does not exist

If our process credentials are not sufficient for a particular decision, we would rather you knew that from this page than discovered it later.

How our content is produced

We have published this because a review site that hides its production method is not being straight with you.

  1. Review analysis — verified Canadian reviews are coded against 20 concern categories and tagged by star rating, so we can separate what people discuss from where they are unhappy
  2. Listing data capture — price, rating, rating count, estimated sales, seller count and Buy Box holder are recorded at a stated date
  3. Drafting — guides are drafted with software assistance, structured against a fixed page template
  4. Human editorial review — every page is checked by a human editor before publication, including the figures and their labels
  5. Ongoing checks — prices and ratings are re-verified monthly, and corrections change the visible last-updated date

What software is never used for: generating measurements, generating buyer reviews, or generating expert identities. Our full disclosure is in our editorial policy.

What this team will not do

These commitments are written into our editorial policy rather than left as intentions.

  • Publish a measurement we did not take. Where a specification comes from a brand, it is labelled as a manufacturer claim
  • Remove criticism of a product because a brand, seller or representative asks
  • Accept payment for a ranking or a rating
  • Publish sponsored content without labelling it, and sponsored content is excluded from rankings entirely
  • Claim a model suits everyone. Every recommendation names who should skip it
  • Hide a weakness in our own data. The review dataset’s skew is published on every guide that uses it

Coverage by this team

Every page on hairdryerlab.ca is produced under this byline. The current set includes:

How to reach the team

Email editorial@hairdryerlab.ca. That address reaches the editorial team directly.

  • Corrections — the most useful thing you can send us. Include the page, the claim and your evidence
  • Data requests — journalists and researchers are welcome; much of our data is already published on the methodology page
  • Feedback — we read all of it

We aim to reply within a few working days, and corrections affecting a recommendation are prioritised. See contact for what we can and cannot help with — we cannot assist with orders or warranty claims, because we are not a retailer.

Frequently asked questions

Why do you publish under a team byline instead of a named author? Because we are a team, and inventing a named persona with borrowed credentials would misrepresent how the work is actually produced. Our credentials are process credentials: a published method, a published dataset with its limitations stated, and published editorial rules.

What qualifications does the Hair Dryer Lab editorial team have? We have research and data analysis capability and a published method. We do not claim hands-on styling expertise, and we do not claim to be electricians or dermatologists. Where a question needs professional expertise, we say so rather than answering it ourselves.

How is the content actually produced? Review analysis is coded systematically from verified Canadian reviews, listing data is recorded from Amazon.ca at a stated date, and guides are drafted with software assistance and reviewed by a human editor before publication. Our use of AI is disclosed in full in our editorial policy.

Are there real people behind Hair Dryer Lab? Yes. The site is produced and maintained by real people who research data, write guides, check prices monthly and answer corrections. We simply do not attach an invented individual identity with invented credentials to that work.

How do I challenge something the editorial team published? Email editorial@hairdryerlab.ca with the page, the claim and your evidence. Corrections that affect a recommendation take priority. We correct the page and change its last-updated date rather than editing it silently.
